Sara El-Gebali is a project leader for metadata and curation at the SciLifeLab Data Centre, the founder of OpenCIDER (Open Computational Inclusion and Digital Equity Resource), co-founder of FAIRPoints, and an advocate for community building and the promotion of underrepresented groups in STEM fields.

She previously held the role of leading the RDM team at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC). Before joining the MDC, she was a scientific database curator at the European Molecular Biology Laboratories (EMBL)-EBI and EMBO. She has comprehensive knowledge in data analysis, metadata extraction and description, data repositories, journal publishing requirements, open science data sharing practices, and FAIR data principles. Prior to that, she gained her PhD from the University of Bern, Switzerland investigating the role of amino acid transporters in colon cancer progression.
